A bizarre incident at a court complex in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district has captured widespread attention after a monkey allegedly snatched a bag containing nearly ₹2 lakh and scattered currency notes from the top of a tree. The unusual episode created confusion, excitement, and chaos among people present at the court premises, with videos of the incident quickly going viral on social media.
According to reports, the incident occurred when a man arrived at the Bulandshahr court complex to complete formalities related to a land registration process. The money was reportedly intended for the purchase of stamp papers required for the property transaction. The cash was being carried in a bag by Ravindra Lodhi, an associate of a local advocate involved in the registration process.
Witnesses said that as Lodhi walked through the court premises, a monkey suddenly appeared and grabbed the bag from his hands. Before anyone could react, the animal ran away with the bag and climbed a nearby neem tree. The unexpected theft left everyone stunned as they watched the monkey settle on a high branch with the bag.
People immediately attempted to recover the bag by shouting, waving their hands, and even throwing small objects toward the tree in an effort to scare the monkey. However, the animal appeared completely unfazed by the commotion and remained comfortably perched among the branches.
What happened next surprised everyone even more. After managing to open the bag, the monkey began pulling out bundles of currency notes and tossing them into the air. Initially, people below could not understand what was falling from the tree. But as the papers floated down, they quickly realized that they were actual currency notes, reportedly in ₹500 denominations.
The court premises soon turned into a scene of frantic activity. Lawyers, litigants, court employees, and visitors rushed around trying to collect the falling cash. Some people chased notes that drifted across the compound, while others stood beneath the tree hoping to catch the money before it touched the ground.
As the unusual spectacle continued, many bystanders took out their mobile phones and recorded videos of the monkey throwing currency notes. These clips spread rapidly across social media platforms, attracting millions of views and reactions from amused users across the country.
The scramble to recover the money reportedly led to some pushing and crowding as people attempted to gather the scattered notes. After considerable effort, those present eventually managed to retrieve the bag from the monkey.
However, when the cash was counted, it was discovered that a significant portion of the money was missing. Reports suggested that approximately ₹40,000 could not be accounted for. While several individuals reportedly returned the notes they had collected, the entire amount was not recovered.
Monkey-related disturbances are not uncommon in parts of northern India, where animals often enter public spaces in search of food. However, witnesses said they had never seen anything quite like this incident. The image of a monkey sitting atop a tree and showering currency notes onto a crowd below left many both amused and astonished.
