The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a serious weather warning for Telangana, highlighting an unusual combination of extreme conditions expected across the state. According to officials from Hyderabad, several districts will face intense hailstorms and thunderstorms, while others brace for a severe heatwave, creating a sharp contrast in weather patterns.
A red alert has been declared in districts such as Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, and Nagarkurnool. These areas are likely to experience severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, strong winds, and possible hailstorms. Authorities have warned residents to remain cautious, as such conditions can cause damage to property, disrupt transportation, and pose risks to life.
At the same time, northern districts including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, and Mancherial are expected to face extreme heatwave conditions. Temperatures in these regions could exceed 44°C, making it one of the hottest spells of the season. The combination of scorching heat and storm activity across the state highlights the unpredictable nature of current weather patterns.
Interestingly, while some parts of Telangana will be battling extreme heat, others will receive rainfall and thundershowers. Districts like Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Warangal, Hanumakonda, and Ranga Reddy are expected to witness intermittent rains along with lightning and gusty winds. This contrast between dry heat and sudden storms reflects a complex atmospheric shift over the region.
The IMD has forecast that light to moderate rainfall may occur in isolated areas across Telangana in the coming days. While there may not be a significant drop in temperatures immediately, a gradual decline of around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius is expected after a couple of days. This slight relief is likely due to the increasing thunderstorm activity predicted across the state.
Between May 6 and May 7, a wider spread of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is expected to impact multiple districts, including Hyderabad and surrounding areas. This period could bring temporary relief from the intense heat but may also lead to disruptions due to sudden weather changes.
Experts suggest that such contrasting weather conditions—heatwaves in one region and storms in another—are becoming more frequent due to changing climate patterns. The sudden shifts can make forecasting more challenging and increase the risk of extreme weather events.
Residents are advised to stay updated with official weather alerts, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and take precautions during thunderstorms. Farmers, in particular, are urged to secure crops and equipment to prevent damage from hail and strong winds. Telangana is set to experience a rare mix of extreme weather conditions over the next few days. With both heatwave and storm warnings in place, authorities are urging people to remain alert and prepared. The coming days will test the state’s resilience as it navigates this unusual and intense weather situation.
