Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) etched their name into IPL history once again by successfully defending their title and lifting the IPL 2026 trophy. The Bengaluru franchise defeated Gujarat Titans in the grand finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, becoming champions for the second consecutive season.
The victory marked another memorable chapter in RCB’s journey, especially after ending their long wait for an IPL title just a year ago. With this triumph, the franchise proved that their previous success was no fluke and established themselves as the dominant force in the tournament.
Chasing a target of 156 runs, RCB displayed remarkable composure and confidence. The team reached the target in just 18 overs, losing five wickets in the process. Once again, it was Virat Kohli who stood tall when his team needed him the most. The batting superstar produced a match-winning knock of 75 runs and remained unbeaten until the end, guiding Bengaluru to another historic victory.
RCB got off to a strong start thanks to an aggressive opening partnership. Venkatesh Iyer played a quick-fire innings, taking the attack to Gujarat’s bowlers during the powerplay. Although RCB lost a few wickets in the middle overs, the required run rate remained under control because of the solid foundation laid by the openers.
The match briefly shifted in Gujarat Titans’ favor when star spinner Rashid Khan struck twice in a crucial over. His wickets created some pressure on the Bengaluru camp and raised hopes of a comeback. However, Kohli remained calm and continued rotating the strike while finding boundaries at regular intervals. His calculated approach ensured that RCB never lost control of the chase.
Kohli also registered one of the fastest half-centuries of his IPL career, reaching the milestone in just 25 deliveries. His blend of experience, timing, and aggression proved too much for Gujarat’s bowling attack. Despite the dismissal of Tim David late in the innings, Jitesh Sharma provided valuable support as Bengaluru comfortably crossed the finish line.
Earlier in the match, Gujarat Titans struggled to build momentum after being put in to bat first. Captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan departed early, putting pressure on the middle order. While Washington Sundar played a fighting innings and scored a well-crafted half-century, Gujarat failed to accelerate consistently.
Frequent wickets prevented the Titans from posting a challenging total. Contributions from Jos Buttler, Nishant Sindhu, Rahul Tewatia, and Jason Holder were not enough to rescue the innings. Gujarat eventually finished with 155 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
RCB’s disciplined bowling attack played a major role in restricting the opposition. Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and the rest of the bowling unit executed their plans effectively, ensuring that Gujarat never gained complete control.
Meanwhile, the season also belonged to Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The young batting star enjoyed a dream campaign and swept multiple individual awards. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the Season, Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season, Orange Cap winner, and Super Sixes leader.
The 15-year-old prodigy from Bihar finished the tournament with a staggering 776 runs at an extraordinary strike rate of 237.30. He also smashed a record 72 sixes, making him one of the biggest discoveries of IPL 2026.
As fireworks lit up the Ahmedabad sky and RCB players celebrated with their fans, the IPL 2026 season came to a fitting conclusion. Bengaluru’s dominance, Kohli’s brilliance, and the emergence of young stars ensured that this season will be remembered as one of the most exciting editions in IPL history.
