Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has sought stronger central support for a group of major road infrastructure projects in the state, including national highway works, elevated corridors and Regional Ring Road components.
Meeting with Nitin Gadkari
The state minister raised the projects during discussions with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari at a national infrastructure meeting in Gujarat. Telangana’s request centres on accelerating approvals, funding decisions and inclusion of key proposals in upcoming central plans.
Among the projects highlighted is a proposed double-decker elevated corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar. The state has also pushed for progress on highway expansion and the northern and southern sections of the Regional Ring Road around Hyderabad.
Why these projects are significant
Hyderabad’s rapid expansion has placed sustained pressure on radial roads and inter-city transport corridors. State planners see elevated roads, expanded national highways and the Regional Ring Road as tools to decongest the urban core while improving freight and commuter movement.
Improved highway connectivity could also support industrial clusters, logistics parks and satellite growth centres outside central Hyderabad. For the state government, faster clearances from the Centre are critical because several projects require coordination on funding, land, national highway standards and implementation agencies.
Centre-state coordination in focus
The discussions also underline the importance of coordination between state governments and the Union government for large transport projects. Programmes linked to PM Gati Shakti increasingly require integrated planning across roads, rail, logistics and urban infrastructure.
Telangana is expected to continue pressing for time-bound approvals as it prepares additional investment and infrastructure initiatives in the coming months.
