Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome in Oslo during his historic visit to Norway, where he met King Harald V and discussed strengthening ties between the two nations. The visit is considered significant as it marks the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in more than four decades.
During the visit, King Harald V honoured Prime Minister Modi with Norway’s highest civilian award, the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. The prestigious recognition was presented in appreciation of Modi’s contribution to improving India-Norway relations and his leadership in expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place at the Royal Palace in Oslo shortly after PM Modi arrived in Norway as part of his European tour. Officials described the interaction as warm and productive, with both sides discussing opportunities for stronger partnerships in areas such as technology, innovation, clean energy, sustainability, and trade.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s rapid economic transformation and the massive opportunities available for global investors and business partners. He reportedly encouraged Norwegian companies to explore India’s growing sectors, particularly in green technology, digital innovation, maritime industries, renewable energy, and infrastructure development.
India and Norway have steadily expanded cooperation in recent years, especially in areas linked to climate change, ocean economy, renewable energy, and sustainable development. Both countries are also working together on Arctic research, shipping technology, and environmental protection initiatives. PM Modi’s visit is expected to further strengthen these collaborations and open doors for new investments and strategic partnerships.
The Norwegian King also hosted a special luncheon in honour of the Indian Prime Minister at the Royal Palace. The event was attended by senior officials, diplomats, and representatives from both nations. The ceremonial welcome reflected the growing importance of India-Norway relations on the global stage.
Political observers noted that the visit carries diplomatic significance because it comes at a time when India is actively expanding its partnerships with European nations.
