Andhra Pradesh election authorities have instructed district officials to photograph and video-document parts of the ongoing voter recertification exercise, adding a transparency measure to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The Indian Express reported that Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav directed District Election Officers to document re-verification involving electors classified under the Absentee, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Others category.
What officials must document
The instructions reportedly include field verification, BLO briefings, voter testimonials, claims and objections and outreach to young and first-time voters. District officials have also been asked to communicate aspects of the exercise through official social-media channels.
The revision process has become politically contentious, with opposition parties raising concerns about deletions while election authorities argue that verification is necessary to maintain accurate rolls.
Safeguards for eligible voters
Eligible voters who were inadvertently excluded can use the prescribed registration process, including Form 6 where applicable. Visual documentation does not replace statutory procedures, but it may provide an additional administrative record of field activity.
The key governance test is whether verification remains consistent, transparent and accessible to citizens. Voters should check their status through official election services and retain acknowledgement details for applications or objections.
Because electoral-roll accuracy directly affects participation, documented field procedures can help improve public scrutiny while disputes over individual entries continue through established remedies.
