Narendra Modi has urged the nation to rally behind what he described as one of the most important reforms of the 21st century one aimed at expanding women’s participation in governance and decision-making. Speaking at the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said that Indian women, known as Nari Shakti, have achieved remarkable progress through determination and resilience. He emphasized that empowering women through greater opportunities is essential for India’s continued growth.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the country stands at a historic moment as the government moves forward with the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a major legislative initiative aimed at increasing women’s representation in democratic institutions. He said the move would fulfill a long-standing national aspiration and strengthen India’s democratic foundation. According to him, greater representation of women in legislatures will ensure more balanced and inclusive decision-making across the nation.
Modi noted that women have played a vital role in shaping India’s journey from the freedom movement to the creation of the Constitution. He added that women leaders, whether at the grassroots or in top constitutional positions, have consistently brought dignity and progress to the country. The Prime Minister also pointed to the large number of women serving in local self-government institutions, saying they represent a powerful example of women’s leadership at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, Rekha Gupta, Chief Minister of Delhi, said that the government’s policies place women at the center of development. She noted that women’s empowerment initiatives, from education to financial inclusion, are transforming the lives of millions across the country
