West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appealed for peace as protests continue in Malda over the removal of names from electoral rolls. Demonstrators have blocked key stretches of National Highway-12, intensifying tensions in the region.
Reacting to the situation, Mamata said she was unaware of who was behind the protests and urged people not to fall for provocations. She also expressed concern over reports that judicial officers were surrounded during the unrest.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India strongly criticised attempts to intimidate judicial officers, calling it a serious challenge to its authority. Mamata supported the court’s remarks, stating that its observations were “absolutely correct.”
The protests have added to growing unrest in parts of West Bengal, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.
